Seat Handover

Prisoners have served up a smart new seat for tennis players in Minchinhampton. Offenders nearing the end of their sentences at HMP Leyhill made the quality bench which has just been formally presented by their governor to the local sportsmen and women. The gift to the community marks the 75th anniversary of Leyhill, near Wotton-under-Edge, which was founded in 1946. Gardening as well as carpentry and cookery are among skills' taught to prisoners to prepare them for employment upon release, Leyhill governor Steve Hodson (pictured seated right) was on hand to officially present the bench to Cllr Nick Hurst (left), chair of Minchinhampton Parish Council which encouraged the link-up. Similar seats to the one newly donated to Minchinhampton Tennis Club are available for sale to members of the public.
